First of all, what is a backlink? Backlink is a link from other website to our website where they give a link on their website. This link can be everything. Start from URL link, image link, anchor link, etc.

On SEO skill, backlink is one factor from many. For a website to be rank higher by a search engine, they need a backlink.
Why search engine put a backlink as one factor for a webpage to be rank in good position? Because a search engine think like a book. Do you have a book? Of course you have. When you open the last page, you will found a reference page. If an author need a trusted source, he will refer to another book or article or something else.

The book or article will become more reliable then before because it was used as a reference.
Using this method, a search engine use the same way to see if your website is a credible website or not. They check who refer your website.
